Chuck was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting the woods around Brethren and fishing on the Manistee River chasing steelhead every fall. He also spent much of his time tending to his lawn, doing yard work, gardening, growing fruit trees and cutting wood. Daya Ray, his English Springer Spaniel, was a constant companion whom he loved to spoil. He was also an accomplished carpenter, cabinet maker and furniture builder who helped found Hindman Wood Trades cabinet company with his son.

He built his home in Brethren and assisted on many others in and around town both with his father and brothers. Started by James Hinman and his wife Erlene, in 1958, the funeral home was designed to feel like a real home rather than a typical funeral home. Now in the second generation of family ownership, we offer modern facilities and full funeral services.
